Speed Reading Test

Learning To Speed Read

We read much faster in our minds than we do out loud.  We read only as fast as we can speak however, because we read each word individually, causing us to read only as fast as we can talk.  The art of speed reading is the ability to picture groups of words rather than one word at a time and send the picture of the group of words to the mind.  Your mind can absorb and understand large groups of words easily if you learn the techniques necessary to transmit pictures to your mind.

What Is A Speed Reader?

You are not a speed reader if you are reading only as fast as you can talk.  The key to becoming a speed reader is to read fast and comprehend what you are reading.  If you do not remember what you have just read, then you have wasted your time, regardless of how fast you are reading.  If you train yourself to speed read you should be able to read three to five times faster than you can read now while still comprehending everything you are reading.  Many people learn to read at tremendous speeds, but this is not necessary to enjoy the benefits of reading faster.

Speed Reading Course

There are many good speed reading courses available today, and you can find them at book stores, your local library, or online.  A good speed reading course will teach you that reading fast is only part of your lesson.  It should teach you how to comprehend what you are reading, how to skim your pages to find relevant information, and how to pre read your article or book.  Pre reading does not really pertain to reading faster but is a useful tool for a speed reader.  One of the most important lessons learned about speed reading is to know what information you are seeking before you start reading.

Speed Reading Techniques

Speed reading is a series of techniques which will help you increase your reading speed and comprehension. Learning to speed read requires learning these specific speed reading techniques. Phrase reading is the first and most difficult. You must train your eyes to look at groups of words and transmit the picture to your mind. This is called reading in phrases. The second would be concentration, and requires the most practice. Blocking out your surroundings and concentrating on what you are reading is a must. It takes some practice, but it can be done. Comprehension is the most important technique to master and will allow you to reap the rewards of speed reading. Reading without comprehension is of no use.
